Research into music history also deals with regional music culture, and researchers into musical instruments can make use of an extensive collection of historical musical instruments. Alongside a varied programme of concerts, there are courses and conferences which address current issues in education and performance practice.

Two Michaelstein specialties complete the picture: “Old Music for Young People” with the Michaelstein baroque youth orchestra BACHS ERBEN and the multi-faceted “Basseurope Academy”.
